Requirements
Course Requirements & Prerequisites No Experience Necessary! This course is designed for absolute beginners. You do not need any prior musical experience, knowledge of music theory, or familiarity with the guzheng. The Five Elements approach meets you exactly where you are. --- What You Will Need Instrument · Guzheng (21-string Chinese zither) · A good quality Lin Quan Yun guzheng is recommended for optimal tone and playability · Available for purchase at BPP Music (contact instructor for details and special pricing) Accessories · Finger picks (plastic or resin) for right hand: thumb, index, middle · Tuning wrench (usually included with instrument) · Small roll of adhesive tape (medical or cloth tape) for securing picks Space · Quiet practice area free from distractions · Chair or bench appropriate height for guzheng · Good lighting --- Physical Considerations · Ability to sit comfortably for 20-30 minutes · No special hand strength required—technique builds gradually · All physical limitations can be accommodated; contact instructor with concerns --- Mental/Emotional Readiness · Curiosity about the connection between music and inner life · Patience with yourself and the learning process · Willingness to observe thoughts and feelings without judgment · Openness to metaphor and reflective practice --- Optional but Helpful · Journal for reflection prompts (provided in course) · Recording device (phone is fine) to listen back to your playing · Willingness to be a beginner—this is sacred ground --- Contact for Instrument Purchase Lin Quan Yun Guzheng available at: BPP Music Contact instructor for details and special pricing --- The only true prerequisite?
