From the course:

Play smarter, not harder with the Alapin Sicilian

Every Sicilian (1.e4 c5) player dreams of playing that 22nd move novelty they prepared. Or at the very least, they hope to enter into a ferocious battle in which the rules of the game are thrown to the wind.

But no one can force you to enter their game.

Placing your pieces on healthy squares, knowing the typical themes of your opening, and playing with energy and purpose in the middlegame is a healthier approach and will net you many wins without unnecessarily complicating things. The Alapin Variation (2.c3) provides you with all of this.

By swerving the main lines of the Open Sicilian, you set the course of the game and frustrate your opponent's better-laid plans. Your strategy is simple: establish an ideal center with 3.d4 and develop actively to get to a middlegame in which black has to tread carefully.

In The Vigorous Alapin Sicilian, International Master Alfonso Jerez shows you how easy it is to make such a plan a reality.

IM Alfonso Jerez is an active and attacking player. When he was younger, he played the Smith-Morra Gambit against the Sicilian. Against the Morra, Black can force a transposition to the Alapin if they wish, so studying the Alapin was inevitable.

After diving deeper into the Alapin, Alfonso realized that the Alapin was an excellent opening to develop his strategic play: with the slightest inaccuracy by Black (which they will make!), you'll have attacking chances thanks to your fundamentally solid position.

Inside Alfonso shows you:

? The main plans Black can try;
? The ABCs of the pawn structures and;
? Model games exemplifying ideal play

All so you learn how to take advantage of these opportunities in your own games. All in just over 200 trainable lines and 11 hours of video.
