Trama:
A Monroe, nel Tennessee, Hank Deerfield, un veterano di guerra, riceve una chiamata: suo figlio, appena tornato da 18 mesi di combattimenti in Iraq, è scomparso dalla sua base. Hank si reca a Fort Rudd, nel Nuovo Messico, per iniziare le ricerche. Nel giro di un giorno, il corpo carbonizzato e smembrato di suo figlio viene ritrovato alla periferia della città. Deerfield si addentra nelle indagini, segnate da contrasti giurisdizionali tra l'esercito e la polizia locale. Lavorando principalmente con una nuova detective, Emily Sanders, Hank sembra avvicinarsi alla verità. Un grosso traffico di droga? Un affare andato male? Scontrini di carte di credito, alcune fotografie e filmati dall'Iraq potrebbero essere la chiave. Se Hank scoprirà la verità, cosa gli rivelerà?
