Estate, fine anni Ottanta. Dopo anni di allenamenti duri e regole ferree, Felice, tredici anni e sulle spalle tutte le aspettative del padre, arriva finalmente ad affrontare i tornei nazionali di tennis. Per prepararlo al meglio il padre si affida al sedicente ex campione Raul Gatti, che vanta addirittura di un ottavo di finale al Foro Italico. Di partita in partita, i due iniziano un viaggio lungo la costa italiana, che tra sconfitte, bugie e incontri bizzarri porterà Felice a scoprire il sapore della libertà e Raul a intravedere la possibilità di un nuovo inizio. Così, in questa strana estate, tra i due nasce un legame profondo e inatteso.
